I had some cheap rings on my marlin 795 and a bushnell scope and it was doing pretty good at 25-50 yards until one of the rings broke. I ran out last night and bought the only set of rings I could find that fit my gun. I'm on the range now and shooting at 100 yards and am shooting probably 4-6th low with the scope adjusted to aim as high as possible. These are the style of rings I'm using but two bolts in each one. http://webimage.equatekinteractive.com/GetImage.aspx?ID=9963b4f8-de1b-4d26-9aba-eb6f8e819b7f&MaintainAspectRatio=True&Height=500&Width=500

Did I get bad rings or am I missing something?

Sounds like the rings are off.

If it was not shooting low before I would say that the cheapo rings are the problem. Switch them around and see what happens.

Hows 50yds?? If it's bang on at 50 your scope+rings are prolly good, try some different ammo. You can't expect the world with a 795 at 100yds. Most of my semi 22's are very accurate at 50, 100 is a different story.

Could it be you are adjusting the scope the wrong way? Try adjusting it as low as it will go.

Rings

Did you install BOTH of the new rings, or simply put ONE of the new rings on and left the unbroken one on the scope? If you only put one of the new rings on, then replace the old unbroken one with one of the new rings, so that both rings on the rifle are the new ones.

Ring height can vary slightly between manufacturers, and rings are usually made in low, medium and high styles. Just because one manufacturer says "medium" on his rings does not mean that they are the same height as "medium" rings from another manufacturer.

Same ammo, iron sights, aiming about 6" above an 8" target resulted in this (minus three of those hits, two are from 200 yards with the marlin and iron sights, and one was from a 9mm pistol at 100 yards) The rest that didn't hit were pretty close to the gong

Yup, both rings were put on.

Really? I get 2-3" 10 shot groups with my 795 at 100yards (Blazer bulk ammo). Not match grade groups, but decent for an inexpensive .22lr.

I've read lots of reports of scope rings moving on 795s, and good quality ones too. The remedy allot of owners seem to have turned to is a 1-pc mount to really ramp-up the clamping pressure. Doesn't need to be this one, but I Googled this one up quick as I've had good luck with BKL.

Now, that wouldn't necessarily address your high/low problems, good rings would probably do that. Just thought I'd let you know about the only other ring oddity some 795 owners experience.

Thought I own (and love owning) several 10/22's :yingyang: , that sounds like a problem not a few 10/22 owners have had with the facory rail  , too.....;)

I'm going to try to switch the rings front to back and see if that fixes it, if not I guess that's what I get for spending my money at a crappy shop.

Lapping is the process of polishing the rings true to each other. It removes the highs and lows cased by the rings not clamping perfectly true to each other relative to your base. A quick search will most likely find photos and descriptions of how to do it. If the rings are putting a "twist" on the scope it might cause some issues with tracking.

I switched the rings around (front to back, back to front) and tried it out today. It worked perfect and got it zero'd in at 25 yards shooting off a post. I had a few good groupings, one of them had 4 out of 5 rounds touching.
