received this today when i went to order some brass;

The comments for your order are:

Dear Mr. ######XX,

Thank you so much for your order. We processed your credit card and were
ready to ship-- but then noticed your address is in Canada. Unfortunately,
we can not ship to Canada. It had not been a problem in the past, but
recently Canadian Customs will not allow "defense articles". (Their term
for most of the things we sell).

A refund has been issued to you in the amount of $107.21. Again, our
apologies- and thank you for your interest in 460 Rowland!

Your Friends at 460 Rowland,

Cindy, Dave and Thomas

i found this strange as ive ordered from them as recently as Jan of this year and twice in the fall.
is there something new that came down the pipe that im not aware of?

I believe the issue is actually surrounding the export out of the USA due to ITAR. The import is without issue as importing brass from overseas is without complication. I went through a similar experience when looking for brass last year.

Nothing new. Loading components have been ITAR controlled items for a long time. You can import brass - you just can't export it from the US without permits.

ITAR is so bad that according to their rules you cannot even bring back your own spent brass from a shoot in the US.

Forget new brass or other components, unless the vendor has the required export permits and such. Interesting (to me) is that there is no ITAR problem with reloading equipment, bullet molds or even holsters.

Canada Customs is only difficult because there are officers who don't actually have a clue, and then make up new rules and regulations on the spot. I seriously doubt that there is any real Canadian regulation barring brass from import, and I know there is no problem in Canada with 460 Rowland. Perhaps they have other products that are issues in Canada - don't know. I suspect the customer service folks at that 460Rowland outfit weren't willing to say "we don't want to deal with ITAR, so we don't export this stuff."

You can. You brought it in with you on your Form6 in the form of a loaded round; you can leave with it after you've used it.

+1. Geraldo needs to get his facts straight. I believe I read that it's wise that you to leave the US with all items that were brought in via a Form 6, including all remaining ammunition and brass. If you leave ANYTHING behind it is legally defined as "importation".
