Can't purchase a restricted without active range membership?

I purchased 3 restricted firearms here in Ont this past year before joining a range , all I said during the transfers was I was planning on joining one of my local ranges soon .
No problems at all with the transfer or getting a TATT to get 2 of them home from a local purchase off of an individual , the 3rd just showed up at my doorstep and the wife signed for it as I was at work .These were all private transactions though and not purchased at a dealer.

I just purchaced a Uberti SAA 45 colt about a week ago and I don't belong to a club. I already have a G17 and a LTATT for the last 4 years. Alberta seems to work fast for transfers. They never called me to ask if I belong to a club, the retailer called and said it was shipped. The only requirement on my LTATT is to be a member or to be a guest of a member and be in possesion of the registration cards. It is valid for the length of my RPAL which is 5yrs as well as for the whole province and to any border crossing in Canada, not just in my home province. I hear Ontario is making their owns laws regarding ATT's and transfers. Hopefully they allow it because you can always go with a friend who is a member untill you get your own membership. Goodluck.

You are in Ontario.
The OP is in BC, as am I.:)
Different CFO, different Policy.:p

Waddaya gonna do Eh!:canadaFlag:

Yeah that's something I should have mentioned regarding my conversation with the Marstar rep. Although he told me he couldn't transfer it without the membership number, when I questioned it, he asked what province I was in. THEN, after I said I was in BC, he told me that it definately couldn't be done.

I think after I get my membership number I will order with someone else anyways though. Not only for this reason, but Marstar didn't even acknowlage my original order (by email), OR my follow-up email for two weeks. It was only when I finally phoned them that they looked into it and discovered that there was a problem.

I believe yes but you need to contact them yourself & inquire. Let us know the answer for future reference.

I ended up just joining the local range here for the month until January 1st.

They gave me a reduced price and it was almost the same as Silvercore. I didn't even check to see if it worked in Alberta.

How long does it normally take to process ATT application??
I sent my application mid last week via fax. Any number I can call for BC to track progress??

Nothing was gonna happen with my restricted purchases until the CFC had a proof of membership on file.

Requested my LTATT yesterday, all they wanted to see was a current membership on file. Any restricted I own or buy in the future will be good under this ATT.

To me that is Friggin STUPID ! If the Federal gives you a restricted PAL they Shall NOT keep you from buying one !!! Why the F*CK they give RPAL for if they are to keep you from getting one ?

It is just like if we would have to join CAA, DAA or any other friggin Automobile association in order to be allowed to buy and register a car after you get your Driver's licence.

If I want to take a driving course, pass my drivers licence, buy a car, register and plate it and then just look at it & let it roth in my driveway without ever using it, IT IS MY BUSINESS !!

Why cant it be the same for a restricted gun ?? Once you have the permit for it, no one shall keep you from buying it unless you do something really silly and loose your previlege to have such a permit and it is revoqued !

Either they authorize you to have one by giving you the permit for it or They dont give you such a permit at all !

This SHALL be clean cut !

This is my two cents.

Anyone a member of this gun club? Is there a way to tell if membership with this club will qualify me to be able to make a purchase of a restricted firearm?

As I read it, no. THE NFA is a political and news organization that supports the firearms community, but it is not a gun club in itself. I may be wrong.

Silvercore is the cheapest solution for folks that need to be a member of a gun club for the purchase of restricted firearms. You can read about it's membership here. I joined the local range for simplicity (I'll buy my restricted there too, good price & support), but this is a valid option for those who don't shoot often.

I had problem as the OP. I just stated that I was in the process of joining a club and the transfer went through in a day and my firearm was at my house 3 days later

I joined my semi-local range because I'll be buying my first restricted from them. The price is competitive, they're authorized dealers, and if there's an issue the gun shop is on the range site.

My only concern is getting to the range enough times to make it cost effective. Weekends are my only shooting time available and day passes are available at this club. If it's close or over, I'll keep the membership. Otherwise I'll investigate Silvercore and day-pass options.

I tried to read through this thread but i couldnt find the asnwer im looking for as its kind of confusing.

I am in BC and my RPAL has been issued, just waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I went to my local gunshop and paid $300 down on a M&P 9mm. When I originally took my course at DVC ventures, I also signed up/paid for a membership, but was told the membership wont be finalized untill I get my RPAL number etc.

So when my RPAL comes in the mail what are the steps I have to take to get my M&P into my hands? And how long will it take?

Thanks.

Sorry if I am hijacking this thread. I am doing searches before posting new redundant questions and there is a lot of back and forth that would be relevant to me. ATT should be an authoriztion to transport. Some of the posters fought about LTATT and only ATT. What is an LTATT? And based upon that response I am trying to find out if I can freely transport between my home and my range without calling in for an ATT each time. I'm certain that is true based on my CFSC training years ago, but I cannot find that anywhere in the actual legislation that I have been trying to read up on. Thanks

ATT is authorization to transport new firearm from point of purchase to your address. LTATT is long term permit used to trasnport any and all restricted firearms you may own from your address to registered firing range, gunsmith or border crossing. LTATT (long term authorization to transport) does away with the need to call in for a ATT every time you want to go to the range.
