I just did my first fieldstrip on my Ruger. I had to hammer the pin down to remove it, but now it won't get back in place. I was thinking of puttin duck tape on longnose pliers. Hold the pin with them and hit them with a hammer. Better ideas, my solution seems somehow primitive. Any experience/tricks to share? Tks

dont own one but hammering any gun is usually NOT required

Is is with the ruger....:D They don't say "hammering", but they do mention "lightly tap" in the manual... Of course they do advise using a plastic hammer.

It usually takes me a few tries to get mine reassembled. Just reread the manual and you'll get it.... Eventually.

I assume you mean a Ruger MkIII .22 pistol? I know I've had problems with mine in the past.

Go through the manual AGAIN (and AGAIN), and make sure that you've got the hammer forward / backwards / trigger pulled / magazine in / mag out / left foot in and you shak it all about / muzzle up, muzzle down...

It really does matter. Also, if the little strut from the hammer is not engaged in the mainspring top corrsctly, you'll never get it together.

It IS a pain in the bum - I have almost thrown mine out the window on more than one occasion. Persevere, and rest assured that it WILL get easier as the parts wear in. You should NOT require any tapping to reassemble.

Good luck!!
