Can't remove the cross pin on a P14?

Hello I am restoring my first p14 but I can't bang out the front sight pin. Does anybody know of any tricks to banging them out and does it matter which side you hit? Both ends of the pin look the same to me. Thanks.

You should flood the area with a penetrating oil like Kroil and let it sit for a while before driving it out. be advised that the front sight protector can be a ##### to remove. There is a thread on here not too long ago which featured a purpose made puller tool for doing the job.
 
I bought some liquid wrench from Canadian tire and soaked the front sight, the pin finally came out using a nail punch to get it started and surprisingly the front sight guard came off like nothing. Thanks for the advice the penetrating oil worked great.
