Well, went out this evening to test out my new glass at some longer ranges after zeroing. Was very pleased. Connected the first 4 of the 5 at 856 yards(Thanks to Strelok Pro). The two on the right edge are dam near touching(Hard to see). 12x11 plate. With factory ammo to boot :) Should be a shooter, off next week for pillar devcon bedding, break, trigger tuning.

Nice shooting, you'll be more then impressed when you start reloading and get the right mix for your gun. factory bullets are marbles when compared to the right home rolled load.
Post some picks when you get your load right for your gun for comparison.

So how do you know when you hit the sweet spot with the right load?

Is it a case of starting low and then building it up to the max in increments while recording how accurate each load and then settling on the best results?

Basicly yes. I did a bunch of loads five bullets for each, with 2 / 10ths of a grain differance in each load, went to the range and started shooting to see which load grouped the best, shoot one load then wait and little while before shooting the next to avoid heating your barrel. I made about 20 different loads, but didn't shoot them all, I struck the perfect group on the 8th or 9th load. Remember you're shooting for group not the bullseye. Hope this gets you there.
50 or 100 yards is plenty for this, I did 100, but others may say 50, depends on how comfortable you are with your gun and a particular distance I suppose.

Do some research on ladder tests, you'll find the best load in no time

What are the specs on the rifle/scope?
