I am planning to drill and mount a 30 mm, cantilever scope mount on a large ring, 98 Mauser action, because the particular 30 mm scope can only be mounted to far ahead, and thus make it very difficult to use and find the target, when using the standart, upright scope rings, which I already have. I am also planning to shorten the stock somewhat, but I do not think that is not enough to remedy this particular problem of the position of the scope. Any suggestions of any other way to solve this problem ?

what is the eye relief on the scope? you could do a scout style mount in front of the receiver or perhaps getting a scope for the gun with suitable eye relief and do up a standard mount operation.

Using "reverse enginering" system, I succesfully managed to install straight, 30 mm scope mounts on a, large ring, Mauser 98 action.

To compensate for the correct eye relief, I cut 2 inches off the stock, indstead of using cantilever scope mounts, with no ill effect on the handling of the gun.
