Hi guys,
A friend asked me to help identify an old caplock rifle that's been gathering dust in his basement. As my interest is in modern military arms and I know absolutely nothing about antiques, I'm hoping someone can give me a hand. Any information would be useful: age (old or reproduction), country or maker, value, etc.
Except for the letters IR carved in the stock, it has no maker or proof marks visible (not surprising due to the amount of pitting!).
Thanks

It looks like a belgian fowler to me but the barrel proof marks would tell the tale. If british, the marks should be on the left side of the barrel near the breach and if belgian they would probably be on the bottom of the barrel. Value locally would be around $200 or a bit more

It was an economy shotgun in its day. Might be Brit, might be Belgian, have seen guns like this from both. The proofs will tell the tale. $150 around here.
The ramrod is not original to the gun.
