This course is a perfect introduction to the modern rifle and can provide you with a solid foundation prior to taking more advanced courses. For the experienced rifleman, it’s an ideal opportunity and environment to refresh and update your training. After zeroing the rifle, shooters are guided through rifle manipulation drills designed to increase comfort while developing a solid skill-set with the modern semi-automatic rifle and pistol

Round Count Minimum

Rifle: 500 rounds Pistol: 300 rounds
(Average amount required; certain repetitions are optional and you can elect to shoot less. That being said, you’ll also have the opportunity to shoot more if desired.)

Loadout Kit

•Semi-auto rifle of your choice – remember that you must put safety on every time you come off target
•Pistol or revolver in 9MM or larger
•Rifle sling
•Minimum 3 magazines or 4 speed-loaders/moon clips/speed strips, more is advised
•Belt-mounted, dominant-side holster or duty rig
•Minimum 3 magazines or speed strips, more is advised
•Magazine/ammunition pouches
•Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
•Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
•Hat with a brim
•Casual, comfortable clothing suitable for training in any weather (unless training in duty uniform)
•Hydration system or bottle
•Sunscreen and bug spray
•Wraparound eye-wear, poly-carbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
•Earmuffs and earplugs

– Firearms safety
– Firearms, sight, and ammounition selection
1000: Break
1015: Principles of marksmanship
– Zeroing, and pistol warm up
1200 – 1300: Lunch
1300: Readying and reloading
– Chamber check procedure
– Ready positions
– Reloading, emergency and tactical
1500: Break
1515: Malfunction clearing procedures
1615: Individual drills
1645: Range clean-up and debrief



Day 2

0800: Firing positions
1000: Break
1015: Shooting from cover
1100: Individual drills
1200 – 1300: Lunch
1300: Pivots/turns
1400 Shooting on the move, forward and backward
1500: Break
1515: One hand operations
1600: Individual qualification
1645: Range clean-up and debrief
