I just purchased an Italian Carcano from a gunshow. The gun is stamped 6.5x54. Is that the caliber I shoot? I purchased 6.5 carcano Norma ammunition, but when I compared it to 6.5 mannlicher I hand lying around it was about 2mm shorter. The 6.5 mannlicher is the same case length as my 7.62x54r case length. What would happen if I shot the Norma ammo through it? Also the bullets don't stay in the mag, so I was wondering if I was missing a part or if I need some sort of stripper clip for it.

It has been converted from its original chambering of 6.5x52 to 6.5x54 and reproofed by the looks of the BNP on it. The stripper clips should be pretty easy to find.

Years ago when I was a teenager I was given an Eatons Cooey Carcano and I had no idea what the thing was. I took it to a local smith and he told me it was a Carcano and it was chambered in 6.5x52. I proceeded to blast away with Norma ammo until about 3 months later when I found out the true chambering was 6.5x54. I wouldn't recommend anyone doing that on purpose but the gun functioned fine. It was the fired casings that made me look into it further. They came out significantly different than when they went in.:p

lol, that's a funny story. My buddy put a 6.5x54 through his 6.5x55 and it split the case pretty bad. What would you value my rifle at?

Honestly, I don't follow Carcano values and since this one has been rechambered and refinished I would guess less than an original. 200-250? Someone more familiar with Carcano's can probably give you a more accurate value.
