Hi,

I've been having problems with my M1891 Carcano in respect with loading rounds from the clip into the chamber. The follower always seems to get stuck only on the 2nd and 3rd rounds, (1st, 4th and 5th feed fine) and the last round almost always jams. Has anyone else had these problems before with their rifles?

Regards,

Braden.

Possibly caused by a worn cartridge clip or a clip that is not properly loaded. The rims of the cartridges should engage the pressed ribs in the sides of the clip, with all the bases fully back against the inside base of the clip.

Open the bolt, and press down fully on the magazine follower arm and see if it moves freely. If it does, suspect the clips or your loading procedure.

REALLY sounds as if you are not loading your Clip properly.

Follow Buffdog's instructions and try it again.

I have better than half a dozen Carcanos and have never experienced this problem. Normally, they are rock-solid and dead reliable.

I had similar problems and came up with 2 solutions:
-some clips will not work in my M91 no matter what I do to them (they are not worn out) so I had to get a number of them, sort them out and sell surplus
-I cleaned entire magazine well, springs, catches and all with long cotton swabs and Hoppes 9- boy, there was a lot of some ancient grime in there

Now everything works out just fine.

Seems more like my problem. The rifle cycles fine if I only load my clips to four rounds each. I'm assuming now that the followers been damaged at one point.

When you load your last round into the chamber, does the Clip DROP FREE of the rifle?

If there is ANY hesitation, there is crap in your Magazine well.
