I picked up this carcano still in the cosmo for $120 today. my question is what is it? the model and caliber? it only says fiat 42 on the barrel. I know nothing about these guns other then I have never owned one before. I got lucky too there was a clip stuck in the magazine from all the cosmo so now I don't have to look for one.

I forgot the bolt says FALC on it also.

The model is a model 41 carcano, caliber is 6.5x52 carcano. If you handload check the bore diameter before selecting your bullets.

Many of the older carcanos have large bores ranging between .266" and .268" or even greater meaning often they don't shoot normal .264" 6.5 bullets all that well.

Often these m41 rifles have nice tight bores so you can get away with normal .264 bullets as long as they are in the 140-160 grain weight range and have a long bearing surface with a flat base.

Very nice score I'd say you stole that one!!

Looks like you have a nice model 1941 Carcano there. Good score for $120. And it's not Fiat 42, it's FAT 42. Farbica arms Terni (or something similar, I don't know any Italian lol). Made in 1942 and most of these rifles were FTR'd after the war, hence the cosmo. They shoot pretty good. I used one for deer hunting a few years ago and got a nice buck.

Did you take apart the bolt? The pics show the bolt as incomplete, I'm thinking you stripped it down.

thank you both for the info!
good eye. nope the bolt parts are not there. the body is fine but I have to look for the other parts now.

OMG!! bonus markings!!! it looks like its a finn capture gun! I didn't even see these markings when I was checking it out.
