Looks like I might have a chance to buy a Carcano with a side mounted grenade launcher and was wondering if there were any legal issues with owning one. A customer of a friend suposidly has one for sale and my buddy dosent think the guy wants much for it. From the little I could find on these rifles they are rare and might be worth a few bucks. Anyone know where I might find a little more info on these rifles? Is the grenade launcher legal? I would assume that it is as its not much ues without grenades. Thanks.

I couldn't find a listing for it on the FRT, but generally speaking grenade launchers are legal. The only ones that I found were prohib were either full auto or had 12/6 barrel lengths. The Russian GP-25 is even exempted. To be honest I don't 100% understand the rules concerning grenade launchers, but I think you're good. Post pictures!

It's most likely non-res, though you may have discovered an overlooked item for the FRT list. They don't seem overly concerned about them.

I'd love to see pics if you can get them!

Should not be that much of a problem because you won't even have a complete launcher: no firing mechanism at all. You used the bolt from the rifle.

For a display, it would be good to find a deact Italian rifle grenade: just look super.

Far as Italian HAND grenades go, best left alone completely; the Red Devils were erratic at best!

Funny, but people diss the Italian rifles and the Italian soldiers, but the rifles were as good as any other, just not as nicely finished..... and some Italian soldiers were truly heroic. There are accounts of Italian troops refusing to leave their MGs until the tanks went right over them. Pure guts.

Excellent North Africa movie if you ever get a chance to see it: The Best of Enemies. Funny as all get-out, but a very real illustration of the true comradeship which can (and should and often does) exist between fighting-men on opposing sides.

Grenade launchers are accessories, not firearms. Launching a practice grenade off an M1 Rifle with regular training blanks is great fun.
Stuff like M79 'Blooper' and M203 launchers aren't firearms due to the MV. Very few, far between and expensive though.
