Caribou Hunting

"...And I will not be won by weaklings, subtle, suave, and mild,
But by men with the hearts of vikings, and the simple faith of a child;
Desperate, strong and resistless, unthrottled by fear or defeat,
Them will I gild with my treasure, them will I glut with my meat..."

"This is The Law of the Yukon, that only the Strong shall thrive;
That surely the Weak shall perish, and only the Fit survive.
Dissolute, damned and despairful, crippled and palsied and slain,
This is the Will of the Yukon—Lo! how she makes it plain!"

Got this one on a Yukon fly-in in 2010.

That's a great looking bull. Do you have a story to go with it?

I was moose hunting as a guest of a friend from Whitehorse. He suggested I buy a caribou tag as well which turned out to e good advice. We did the fly-in thing on a lake for a week. His wife was there as well as my oldest daughter. No great hunting story other than I spotted 5 caribou across the lake and we went over in the zodiak and I collected this one. It was the largest of the bunch. My host also shot a very nice bull later in the day. I was pretty pleased with that bull and decided that I wasn't going to go for a moose after that. Didn't see one anyways so that was easy. :)

That looks like an amazing place to be. Congrats on the amazing trip, and I bet it was amazing to share it with your daughter and good friends.

It was a trip of a lifetime. I'm glad my daughter came to share that with us.

and i did even met the man that killed the caribou. a shame the 375 is gone it was a great rifle even as a 700 ...

I was getting tired shooting magnums and that 375 went to a good home, so away it went. Still have the Whelen and it's a 700 as well. :)

Love caribou, watching em, hunting em, eating em.

Awesome stuff. Caribou aren't hard to kill as well. No need for magnum stuff IMO. I've shot them only with my 25-06, usually bang flops. Innu apparently often use 223 I'm told.. Bloat really fast so take that pic and get the guts out fast ... otherwise you'll have green goo pushing out of the mouth. Enjoy you're hunt!
