Can anyone reccomend an outfitter? That they have first hand experience with. Hopeing to do a trip. Thanks.

Dave.

I am looking for the same thing.

Had a great Caribou Hunt in Newfoundland 2 years ago now looking to go to Quebec, I was shocked to see some of the prices they are charging.

Try the Quebec Outfitters Federation website for listings of all members who offer Caribou . www.fpq.com , Or try the Tourisme Quebec site for a request of the hunting and fishing packages brochure, its got everything they offer and have the prices and all relative info right on their ads. Mine is in the bear hunting section. Hope this helps

If you are looking for a caribou hunt in northern Quebec. Hands down the best outfitter in my opinion is Silak adventures. I was on a caribou hunt in September with these guy. It was the best time I have ever had hunting.

You are treated first class all the way from the food ( you eat like a king )
guides that are first class. Made to feel welcome. I can not say enough good things about these guys. If you are looking for a hunt of a life time you would be wise to look these guys up.

On top of the great hunting the fishing and bird hunting are unbelievable. You must bring a shotgun and fishing pole.

That is the one thing you have to be prepared for is the price. The price is so high because alot of the hunters are Americans coming up for a trophy. If you are more interested in meat then trophy's, let them know that you are Canadian they mite work some thing out with you.

Best advice I would give other then outfitter I gave above would be go to the out door shows and meet the outfitters and talk to them. Watch what happens when you tell them that you are Canadian and would like to hunt for the meat not a trophy. you will be surprised.

I went a couple of years ago and went to the outfitter "Donat Asselin". By no means fancy but you are only there for 3 days, how much 5 star do you really need, get in, get your animals, and get out. We had 4 guys and 8 caribou in about 2 1/2 hours of hunting. A buddy of mine went about a month or so ago, 12 of them, same outfitter, 24 caribou on the first day they were there.

Do you know if this fellow has a website? Thanks.

My buddy just got back from Asselin's. Quite spartan from what he said- . Apparently they were surrounded by caribou last year but this year the main herd apparently had moved south so the 'bou were a lot scarcer. The three of them managed to surprise a small herd of 7 hiding in a copse of woods and when the smoke cleared ( or their giuns ran dry, I forget which) they had 5 down, but they never got #6. The rate was $1500 a hunter including license & accommodation IIRC.

Anything but Xplo Silva - if those crooks are still in business. We got %$#@!& over by them - they were neither long on honesty or competency.

OH you aint been boned real good till you've been with wedge hills lodge that has their office in the hotel in schefferville...5,000 per person 3 small cows for 6 guys, beat that

I just got back from a hunt with Donat Asselin Outfitters. The owner and staff were rude and borderline ignorant. The camp is best described as "filthy" with no ovens to "re heat" food. The brochure recommends bringing food to "re heat". The oil heater in the trailer was set on high with the control knobs removed. The windows were fixed so they could not be opened. The guys in the top bunks suffered terribly. Mirage is a top drawer outfit with very professional and curteous Cree guides. I was very disapointed with Asselins camp. His web site must have pictures from another camp as I did not see any bright cheery dining areas as portrayed in the site. I shot my two bulls and did see some caribou so I can't complain about the actual hunting. I will return but not to Asselins. I can rough it but I have been in tent camps with more comfort than this place.

cheers Darryl

I think you have to decide first before you go if want to stay in a luxury place or just a place to come back to. Sure Mirage is a 5 star place, but they are open all year around, where as Donat's is ONLY open for the caribou season and thats all. Its a brutal long drive up to there to do much in maintenance all the time. Sure the windows should be able to open incase of fumes (from the stove, not arses), and you should be able to somewhat control the heat, both of which we never had problems with, that was about 2 years ago. In my opinion, you are only there for three days, so I can just grin and bare it, as most of that time anyway, you are out hunting. That is just my opinion though.
