Poor guy he’s still out there trying to find his crossbow bolt.
Kidding. Sucks to be that animal.
Another forum hypothesized that since they’ve trained it to approach humans it may have walked into a guy practicing without broad heads.
 
At that angle I would say it was from a tree stand, and as for the broadhead/field point, I can't see any tip at all, so assuming it was a poorly thought out shot from a hunter, I would hope it had a broadhead that has come loose and fallen out.

It looks like he's ok, so thats good at least.
 
looks more like some douche playing around with field tips. A broadhead going through that location would have much more visible damage, and a large enough hole I'm not sure the arrow would stay there. Maybe kids shooting from a barn or something. No way that was a hunter
 
That sounds like a probable scenario for this.
As far as the angle goes if it was kids it could have had its head down feeding. Who knows

On the other hand, If that was a douchebag trying a headshot with a field tip he deserves to get #### cancer.

A lot of things can go wrong with archery, for all we know this guy hit a branch that deflected the arrow or the deer jumped/moved while the shot was taken.
People are quick to judge based on unknown facts. I'm the first one to admit it, I have taken poor shots by accident and have lost a deer, it happens.
