carry case for handgun

I have two different set up to bring handgun to the range. The first one is a 12 dallors safe and put inside a soft nylon brief case so that nobody thing there are pistol inside. The other one is a alminuim tool box which can carry more than 4 pistol and cost only $19 from Walmart. I like them a lot.

I've got a nylon case that I use. It can carry two handguns, a couple boxes of 45 ammo, a brick of 22's, my shooting glasses, ear muffs, small cleaning kit and a small tool kit. It has both a carrying handle and shoulder strap.

Where is a good place to get some black foam? I went to Crappy Tire and the only foam they had was camping sleeping mats.

trigger lock on the gun, into a soft pistol case, and lock thru the zipper to the "D" ring..... legal. If I am taking multiple guns I use a cdn tire plastic tool box that I got for under $20.

Converted Samsonite briefcase - filled with egg carton high density black foam. Combination lock. Trigger locks on the handguns.

A fellow I knew use a GI 308 ammo can with lots of foam inserts. The handgun with lock is wedged in between the foam layers and all he need is a padlock to lock the cover. Surplus ammo cans can be purchased for $5 around here. However, it does limits the size and number of guns you can carry though.

What are the legal requirements in Canada for transporting a handgun between your home and a shooting range? Does it need to have a trigger lock on it? Do you have to use them when they are in your homes? I'm asking because I've noticed that you folks use them way more often then either my friends or I do.

I put my gun, trigger locked, in a plano hard case I bought at Wal-Mart for like 10 bucks, then that goes into my range bag which is also locked.

Trigger lock or cable lock is required even inside of a locked container. Not sure how your friends transport, but this is the regulation below. I use combination trigger locks on all handguns inside a combination locked Plano 4 pistol case. I used to use keyed locks, but they only key 3 alike and this saves extra keys for trigger locks and the case lock on my key chain.

To my knowledge, no trigger locks required if it is in a "safe", that is what I use and do not trigger lock in the safe. A gun "cabinet" would not be considered a safe, therefore a trigger lock. There is a lot of interpretation in these laws. My theory is better safe than sorry. You'd hate to lose your "privilege" of owning handguns to careless storage given our wonderful laws.

TRANSPORTATION OF RESTRICTED FIREARMS

11. An individual may transport a restricted firearm only if

(a) it is unloaded;

(b) it is rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device;

(c) it is in a locked container that is made of an opaque material and is of such strength, construction and nature that it cannot readily be broken open or into or accidentally opened during transportation; and

(d) if it is in a container described in paragraph (c) that is in an unattended vehicle,

(i) when the vehicle is equipped with a trunk or similar compartment that can be securely locked, the container is in that trunk or compartment and the trunk or compartment is securely locked, and

(ii) when the vehicle is not equipped with a trunk or similar compartment that can be securely locked, the vehicle, or the part of the vehicle that contains the container, is securely locked and the container is not visible from outside the vehicle.

STORAGE OF RESTRICTED FIREARMS

6. An individual may store a restricted firearm only if

(a) it is unloaded;

(b) it is

(i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device and stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into, or

(ii) stored in a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked; and

(c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in

(i) a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into, or

(ii) a vault, safe or room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked.

I saw the same type of case in Rona. The black foam is semi cut in cubes to make forming of niches for your guns easy. Keyed locks and it has a partition in the top to store tools as well. I estimate that they can hold 4 handguns. Estimated because I don't own 4 handguns.
