So I got looking at these and I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has carried one of these around in a holster? It seems like it would be a long, awkward package based just on using a tape measure to get some scale, but I want to know firsthand how it is.

Point of thread: Is carrying a holstered Mare's leg practical in a field situation or is it just a fashion statement?

I do not care about slings, backpacks etc. The question pertains strictly to belt or shoulder holstering.

I think we will find out the answer to your question in the next few months.
I won't be buying a legholster.

In the next few months a lot of people will acuire both a Mare's leg and a holster and then we will hear all about the pros and cons.....

I honestly can't see how a leg holster would be practical or comfortable for anything other than at the range.

A single point sling attached to the saddle ring, or some sort of over the shoulder rig seems to make more sense. But the leg hostler will be cool. :)

well I received my Henry yesterday and to be honest I think it's far to heavy to walk around with in any kind of leg holster, even more so if you actually plan on doing any kind of bushwhacking. I like the scabbard or single point sling ideas.

I love this little gun. Fun factor is very high. Beautiful finish,
I would love to get a full size stock on this. I got the 45 colt.

WoW! I love the looks. Looks like it could be a fine bear defense tool while picking berries in the bush. ;) Opps, I didn't say that, did I?

Why couldn't you just order a full-length stock for one of the standard Henry rifles?
That's certainly what I'd do. The Mare's Leg is a creation of the U.S. laws that deem it a pistol. Putting a full stock on it makes it an NFA registerable firearm in the U.S. In Canada the laws deem it a rifle so a full length stock would be fine. If you're going to carry it over your shoulder why not put on a full stock and enjoy the advantages it will bring over the cutdown version.

I'd be very interested in one of these with a full stock in .44 magnum.

X2 That Henry looks great and I'm not a fan of gold!

What we need here in Canada is for some fabricator to make up a replacement metal piece for the end of these guns that has a dovetail that accepts a stock extension..... Two pieces of metal that lock together one attached to the mare's leg grip and one attached to a butt extension. Best of both worlds...
