Hi, Folks:

I'm going to hunt in Baker Lake from Toronto through Manitoba then Baker Lake.

I'm wondering if there are any laws/regulations about firearms I have to be aware of?
The rifle/ammo gotta be in guncase and locked in different case for sure, but whatelse should I be aware of?

Like how long prior boarding should I arrive airport? Any document I shall get it done before my trip?

Any comments are welcome. Thank you for your time and help.

It depends on which air carrier you'll be using. Use a airline specific (metal) hard case that can stand cargo guys tossing the case 10'. They aren't gentle with guns and gear. Different air lines have different regs for ammo. Some want in cargo with your gear while others require it be on carry-on. Check first and be very certain. Good huntin'!

Hi,

Yes, the flight from Toronto to Winnipeg is Canada airline (CA), and Winnipeg to Baker lake is Calm Air.
Will be hunting muskox and wolf.

The luggage will be Rubbermaid ActionPacker 24, and gun case is Pelican 1750.

We see allot of fierarms going through the Churchill airport heading north,I don't think you will have any problems here, just follow the rules. Happy hunting

"different regs for ammo. Some want in cargo with your gear while others require it be on carry-on"
I do not think this is correct.
All commercial airlines that I am aware of require ammunition to be checked baggage, and none allow it as carry on.
Some may want the checked ammunition in a locked container container and separate from the other luggage, but usually ammunition can be placed in a separate locked container placed in normal checked bags.

Always contact the airlines to check what their guidelines are, some require advance notice.

Good luck getting through airport security with ammo in your carry on. Even a .22 round lost in the lining of your coat can be a major inconvenience, think missed flights, police interview, embarrassment, cost, and a possibility of criminal charges. Check your ammo, fill out the firearms declaration when you get your boarding pass, and enjoy your adventure.

You're laughing.

Don't take a caliber that you won't be able to find...just in case.

Yeah, that was the dumbest piece of counsel I've heard in a long time.

Check with the airline and do not listen to what Trimmer said cause he knows not of which he speaks.

I've flown several times with a rifle. Rifle in hard case, locked. I bought a plastic container for ammo, store it in suitcase or duffel to be checked. Expect to pay a fee.

Rifle did not make it on my flight once, pain in the azz. Air Canada delivered it to my hunt camp 36 hours later.
