Cartridge Laser for sighting a 308

I would say its not worth it. For the few times you'll use it, its a waste of money. The cost varies but some(rec-t-fire) will run you around $175. I suggest just shooting the rifle. Its cheaper, gives you some more hands on trigger time and a lot more fun.

Spend $50 or less and get yourself one of these.

Use it to get on paper at 25. Tune up and sight in at 100. Then put it back on and have a look to see how it shows on the grid once sighted in. Mark it down. Once you are sighted in, it can be used as aquickie check to see if the scope has been moved (by acident or otherwise).

Better money spent than the laser toys.

I bought one of the Cabelas cartridge boresighters. They work but they sure as heck aren't necesary. All they do is save ammo if you have really messed up a scope install or you have a used scope that may be out at the limits of adjustments.

I'VE GOT A REC-T-FIRE-i don't know where it is, but it's in 308 winchester- and 338 win mag- we took it to an INDOOR range and at 50 yards, you couldn't see the red dot even with their FANCY REFLECTOR that costa an extra 10 bucks -POS

Honestly just start at 25 yards, with a bigger target if you're worried. I don't even bother bore-sighting. Its just a waste of time. If you're not on paper at 25 yards you've got bigger problems than any laser sighting tool is going to be able to fix.

^^ I agree! take the money you were going to spend on the scope and laser bore sighter and put it all towards a better scope.

k, in that case let me rephrase that question, how much would a decent scope for an M14 cost for someone who's new to shooting and is just getting started, keep in mind I don't have the money for anything above average.

Wholesale Sports sells new ones with target knobs for $239.95
