I read about the subject and i found that a lot of poeple use finger nail polish to seal the primer and bullet.

What i want to know is, does the nail polish that you put on you bullet affect accuracy?

Thanks

Nobody I know.

Life's too short. That'd waste a lot of it.

Sealing is used on a lot of military ammo, but it's to provide a long shelf life. For the military in general, accurate enough, is, as far as ammunition goes, but it still has to be good fifty years down the road...

Cheers

Maynard said----Who uses a sealant?

The Canadian military for one. Their 308 type ammo from the mid 60s, made by Dominion Ammunition, had the bullets sealed with a black guk.
It is not uncommon to seal ammunition that may be subject to a lot of moisture. I sealed (with nail polish enamal) the primers and bullets of 44 mag ammo that I thought would likely get very wet, at times.

dizzy dan, I hear Russian primers are a bit bigger. A fellow on the US Palma team told me when the primer pockets on his Lapua brass start to open up, he uses the Russian primers and get a few more loadings out of them.

I have never sealed any ammunition, and I have been caught in heavy rain with ammunition on my belt in one of the plastic holders that some factory loads come in on several occasions.I had no problems whatsoever, even after days of continual rain.

I was given a couple of boxes of 30-30 Factory Ammunition that had spent several days at the bottom of the lake in a submerged pickup. Unwilling to take a chance, I pulled it all down to see how much moisture had entered. To my surprise, only two rounds showed any signs of water egress, and even they only had a bit that got by the neck of the case. The primers all went "bang" as well. I'm sure there is some virtue in sealing military ammo, but, for the life of me, I cannot imagine sealing any of my hunting ammo. Regards, Eagleye.
