I'm going to visit an exploration project near Cartwright, Lab. The company is run by one of my former staff and I'm friends with his father.

The drill is SE of town and starts Nov. 1 and will go until January.

I asked him what they had and he said the locals had shotguns. It's polar bear habitat.....................

I like this kid so I'm loaning him my great bear rifle. A 20" BRNO 602 CRF, .375 H&H. I told him to bring it back in the same condition I give it to him. It's already de-greased and the firing pin, firing pin channel, spring and the rest of the bolt are clean and dry.

I have Snap Caps and 3 or 4 boxes of ammo. I told him to train with all of them and pay me back for the ammo replacement. Except for the Winchester Failsafes as I can't replace them.

I'll probably loan it without the 1.5x5 VariX. Just run it with the express sights.

Hope he doesn't need it.

I would have lent out a mossberg 14" 590 tactical with a few boxes of slugs, a solid reliable weapon light, and tactical sling. the locals know what kind of medicine to administer for polar bear. the rifle is great but you won't get it back in mint condition. in and out of cold and warm plus riding around on atv/ sleds and whatever. it's going to be a work gun, plan accordingly.

I lent a 30/30 to a guide. Guiding wasn’t his full time job by any means rifle came back in pretty ruff shape as he actually used it. I pretty much knew how it would look.

Only part that bothered me was I lent a fella a rifle who made 500k a year. Didn’t charge ammo because I am not broke either.

Is the young fellers job non paying?
He makes OK coin but not a lot.

I try not to bill his company for my consulting time unless it's substantial.

It's only VG condition wise and only worth around $1200 to me with the scope and rings so if it gets some wear but keeps him safe I'm good with it.

What company is sending workers in Polar Bear country and not having a safety plan already in place?
Pal, training, rifle. Ammo should all be pre-planned. Getting shot is a bigger risk than bears if the training is lax

When I was working in the Arctic, we werent allowed our own firearms but certified Inuit guides with rifles accompanied all teams working on the land. We were doing coastal work during the summer so the polar bears were gone, just dealing with grizzlies
