cas 44 mag loads

I use hogdon Titegroup for my .45 colt for cowboy action with good results, velocities with 270 grain bullets are roughly 850 fps in the pistol and 1000 fps in the rifle. Is there a very active group of cowboy action shooters in PG? We have a fairly active group here in Quesnel. We shoot club matches every fourth Sunday of the month and every second Wednesday evening in the summer. We will be shooting this Sunday providing we don't get a huge dump of snow. PM me if you are interested in attending some of our shoots and I will give you directions to the club. If you aren't fully geared up to compete there are always lots of guns and leather people are willing to loan someone that is just getting started.

sdc thanks for the info :)

ckid- I am currently shooting IPSC ,but I think I would like to try CAS down the road. I just bought a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag and want to start working on some loads so I can shoot it. myself and some of the others in our club may pop down there next year.

I shoot .44 Mag Ruger Vaqueros in CAS and my standard load is 5.0 grains of W231 pushing a 240 grain lswc bullet. My 1906 Winchester M92 and Marlin M1894S both in .44 Magnum prefer 7.2 grains of Unique pushing the same 240 grain lswc bullet.

As for a shotgun, hunt around for a good Winchester M97 pump gun.

doon:
Re CAS shotguns, SIR had some SXS 12 ga. external hammer Norinco 1887 Coach Guns, (Norinco Model 99??)
You can also use any double with internal hammers as long as they don't use ejectors. Extractors only are CAS legal.
You might also consider a Winchester 1897 pump or a clone as they too are CAS legal.
Don't hesitate to show up at any CAS shoot. The cowboys and gals are a great bunch and most are happy to loan a newbie what ever is needed to shoot a stage or two, or three or more.

HOWDY; SHOTGUN- The first choice would be a real winchester97 or Norinco 97. The stoeger double with ckoke tubes and 20 inch barrels would be first choice of doubles . they say the Bakies are strong and stevens 311 IF you have a gunsmith adjust the opening so the shells will drop clear.
The mule eared double is last choice unless you shoot black powder and MUST use a external hammered gun.
CAS is a speed game get the fastest shotgun the first time.

Vicious is right on the money go with an original Winchester 1897 if you can find one for a price you are willing to pay. A word of caution about the winny though, try to find a solid frame versus a takedown model. The takedown models can get loose and can be adjusted tight again but there is only a finnite amount of adjustment available and then it will be off to a good gunsmith or machinist. On the other hand all 'rincos are solid frame but require significant polishing to get the slickness the winnies are famous for. Hope this help and keep in touch about next summer.
