Case cleaning?

After shooting and prior to reloading is it imperative to wash and clean all of the cases? I was thinking about reloading at the range. I was thnking of using the lee wax based lube and just wiping the cases clean. The cartridge will be 6.5x55mm. If this wont work, what are my options? Neck size only?

It is not necessary to clean between loads. Wipe off any lube on the outside of the cartridge case. A lubed case can increase backthrust against the locking lugs. You also don't want lube inside the case neck. This can result in inconsistant bullet pull.
Having said this, Lee lube is water soluble, and if I am at home I prefer to wash the cases, then tumble them - not to polish, but to clean. I just prefer to work with clean brass.
