I scored 30 empty .300 Win mag brass at the range. I want to form it to work in my 7mm Weatherby mag. I tried straight full length sizing and managed to put a bunch of wrinkles right at the neck transition. Anyone have any pointers?

Aside from telling me not to use brass that isn't headstamped with 7mm weatherby.

Well you will be pushing the shoulder back approx. .2 of a inch, that will be tough to do in one try.

...case forming lube....

...I tried Rooster Red case forming lube...it's slightly better and cheaper than Imperial Sizing die wax.....

Thanks for the welcome. I have some hunting and shooting buddies that live in Canada and also several customers. Everybody has been great except one gunsmith.

When you are resizing that brass, do not put any lube on the shoulder of the case, only the body. The lube encourages wrinkles in the neck as it gathers and has no place to go. Regards, Eagleye.

I reform 300 Win Mag to 7 X 61 S& H. I have correct reforming dies from RCBS. I lightly apply Imperial to the necks and body but not the shoulder. I use virgin brass. This reforming is more severe than making 7 Wby. If I were using pickup range brass I would anneal the necks and shoulders. I get zero rejects using virgin brass of recent manufacture. I tried older new brass that had been on the shelf for several years and found I had to pre-anneal to prevent dimpling and creases, It had age hardened. I expect once fired brass would behave similarly to older brass. You may have to opt for reforming dies or anneal the pickup brass you have to get good results.
