Hi,

I got a new folding 18.5" 12g Sinsinati (grouse gun) and have been looking for a compact soft carry case for it without spending too much money. The box it came in was 10"x21" but when folded it is a triangular shape. I will look around for a cheap tennis racket case that might fit maybe but just wondering if anyone knows any other <$40 alternatives?

Thx,
J

There was a thread a while back where someone made one out of the leg of a pair of khaki pants. it fit pretty good while folded and had the pocket still on to put things in.

it was in the corwin arms forum buried in one of the old threads on the backpackers, but may not be there anymore, they basically took the leg of a pair of khakis, cut out the length they needed from the thigh area, sewed the bottom and made a flap and tie out of the top, then you could slide the folded backpacker in.

I just read an article, the owner of a similiar shotgun milled a slot in the forearm for the trigger guard, trimmed the guard to fit, cut the pistol grip to english style and trimmed the fore-end so it would fold completely flat, barrel tip touching the toe of the stock.. I have one of these sinsinati s and intend to do this but have not started yet...let us know if you try.

Never mind about a deeper slot to fold tighter...I got mine a little closer to folding flat but not all the way. I deepened the slot and trimmed the wood at the hinge, but still not as compact folded as i'd like
I fixed the trigger a while back and that turned it from unusable to decent as a really light grouse gun,

Thanks can't seem to locate that thread...

Still have the gun, still have the "case," both still going strong. I actually use that case for a few different break actions. I like the side pocket for carrying spare ammo and whatnots. It also fits my Little Badger.

Those little single shots are taking off in popularity big time especially with the H&R Pardner not in production. I saw a store with three of them. A 12 gauge, 20, and .410. All are 28" barrel fixed modified choke guns. They're under a different brand name but still same action. Ill still take my side x side over one any day for the reason I've gotten groups of birds. Shoot one on the ground and then come back and get one on the fly. May as well get two birds stoned at once am I right?

The Sinsinati guns have screw in chokes for the 12 gauge, which makes them a bit more versatile. Just handy little knockabout guns that weigh around 5lbs. Sure, they kick like a mule at that weight, but their nothing to carry around if you're just worried about the odd opportunistic shot. And at the price of them, you're not worried about rough use.

They have their place. If I'm out actually hunting, it's not what I'm going to grab. But if I'm hiking or checking fences at the farm, I'll grab a single shot.
