Just curious if ppl have had case ruptures with norc ammo? Nothing bad happened to me or the rifle. I noticed it when picking up all the loose brass.
Fired it from the svt 40.

Pretty common with milsurp steel casings. Some milsurp are worse than others. If you were shooting new commercial stuff and it happens or if it continues with cases of milsurp, I would say you have a problem.

That is why you always shoot with safety glasses on.

Cheers,

Is this the first time you used this rifle and have you tried different brand of ammo?

This is really common with 7.62x54R
I find the SVT-40 to be particularly hard on cases.
I've shot probably 3k from my SVT, a mixture of Chinese and bulgarian surplus.
Anecdotally, at least, the Chinese seems to rupture (or just have more issues in general) than the bulgarian.
I've had a lot of cracks, but never a problem.
Almost never have them in the Mosin

maybe it has to do with the fluted chamber, i don't know.
The rupture you have is pretty significatn, mine usually don't extend past the neck and almost never passed the shoulder.
Were they all like this, or just a couple?

Somewhat common with the 2011 production Norinco I've shot through my mosins, as mentioned above nothing to worry about. I've seen it with pretty much every variety of steel cased 54R I've shot. The guys who say they've never seen it with steel cased ammo Prob don't shoot very much or don't clean up their mess at the range!

I had some of the chinese stuff at the range and nocticed some cracks in a few the second time i had my mosin out. First time i used other stuff with the red laquer around it i got from al simmons and no cracks. Im assuming its those rounds, i got some other surplus silver tip, may be russian or czech and we'll see what happens, nothing bad happend to me or the gun with the few that cracked.

i half way throw my seocnd crates of ammo with mostly shooting them in the svt and never find any of them like that after the shooting only one time in the moisin and that all

Splits like the one in the picture aren't all that uncommon. As others have observed splits are more common in SVT because the fluted chamber concentrates the stresses at the neck. The chamber is the pressure vessel, not the case, so there isn't really any particular danger. At worst there will be some small amount of gas escape past the bolt; no problem if you are wearing safety glasses.

Older ammunition tends to be more prone to splits - some 1946 I had split all the way down to within about 10 mm of the base. In general you should stay away from this very old ammunition because other more serious problems are possible (disintegration of the extruded powder granules into a fine powder that can produce dangerously high pressures).

Brass cases, after enough reloadings, will fail at the neck in the same fashion.
