Hello Reloaders

I'm looking for some recommendations regarding case trimmers. The trimmer will be used for rifle and pistol. My main criteria is quality - I'd like a trimmer that cuts clean and straight and is consistent in length from case to case. I like to reload for accuracy. I reload for 5 rifle cartridges (.222, .223, 22PPC, 22-250, .308) and 2 pistol (.38/.357, .44Mag/Spl) so it could matter if I have to buy a lot of pilots or adapters versus universal devices.

From my scant research, the Redding one looks like the best one. Hornady also looks good and is sold near me. I think I'd have to go mail order for Redding. I haven't looked closely at Lee, Dillon, RCBS or Lyman.

Please comment on any trimmers for me. Thanks.

Given those requirements, the only choice is the Wilson.

For ease of use, most people go the Sinclair route that incorporates quick adjustment and clamping: http:// www.sinclairintl.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=RECTACSI&item=05-470&type=store (take the space out before the www). Once you pony up for the trimmer, the case holders don't cost too much. $6.85USD for the basic ones, and $12.76USD for the rimmed case holder (for your .357).

The basic trimmer is only about $32USD, but you'll appreciate the micrometer adjuster if you're doing more than one calibre.

If you reload ammo in quantity, you might want to consider the Giraud case trimmer. The case head-spaces on the shoulder within a shell holder, and the trimming and chamfering is completed simultaneously. The system is very fast, and very accurate. I do not see why a shell holder could not be made up for a straight walled rimmed case, but a rimless straight walled case would take some thought.

I use my Giraud for all my bottle neck cases, but straight wall cases I use my RCBS rotary trimmer.

Use the Lee trimmers in a drill press, even a $50 Canadian Tire dril press works fine. Just feed the spindle down on the case until the pilot pin touches the table. No other trimmer is faster or easier.

the Lee is crap compared to the RCBS Trim Pro, which is a huge step down from the Wilson. Which is equal to the Giraud or the other one (can't remember it's name), but the Wilson is half the price or less than the Giraud, although not anywhere near as fast. Same style of retention of the case too.
