Recently I sold a few guns and bought a really nice Winchester Highwall instead. The action is from 1887 but it has a 40-70ss Badger barrel in new condition and really nice wood. However, the action was polished and in the white. I have a disorder and seem to have to caseharden everything so I casehardened the action and I am glad I did. This is an exception rifle now and I am going to enjoy it greatly.

I'm a big fan of the .40 cal. I have three in 40-60 Maynard Roller, formerly a Danish 8x58RDK, 40-65 Uberti Highwall, 40-70 SS built on a Uberti Highwall. All of them shoot the 400 gr "Snover" bullet very well. With the new Badger barrel, do you have to use original brass or can you use shortened .405 Win cases?
BTW, it's a beauty!!!.....and I'm envious!!!

Thanks, I really like it. It came with 100 brass that are 30-40 Craig brass fire formed and stretched to length. They seem to work well for me

The reason I was asking, my rifle was built by my friend Buck and his 40-70 SS reamer has "Hornady 405" printed on it, so, I use .405 brass cut to 2.5" I've never tried anything else! My 40-60 cases are made from 40-40 Krag and .303 Br. both work equally well.
