Anyone out there try to make a spent casing buffer for their scope mount on a M305?

I am trying out one made of rubberized foam. I think, I'll just end up with rubberized foam bits in my action but what the hell...

And totally off subject here, but can anyone say how much better their M305 shoots with a NM spec Op Road Spring guide? I'm curious to try one out.

I'm curious about your "off subject"....

Could an Op Rod Spring guide really make the rifle shoot better? I can understand how it could improve function, as in less bolt cycle failures, etc. But can it actually effect accuracy?

The NM op rod guide help with shot consistency.

Instead of the recoil spring bunching up and looking like multiple esses while compressed with the factory flat guide, the round NM guide straightens the spring out and keeps it in line when compressed.

This help with shot to shot consistency.

What scope and/or mount are you using that makes this a problem? Never heard of this on the M305.

Now on the SKS on the other hand.....a wrap (or ten) of black eletrical tape seems to do the trick and wears well.

I don't have a NM op-rod guide, I use a Rooster33 guide instead. Smooths out the action considerably.

I use black anti skid tape (AKA skateboard tape) for buffering my AR brass deflector and for grips on some other firearms including the AR and it works very well at protecting finish and is very good adhesive qualities and very grippy. You can get it at home hardware and wallyworld. I think it would be a good buffer material that would protect your mount.

I have the Madsen mount.

I shot the rifle today. Scope seems okay, I fired 20 federal FMJ 150 g and got three 3-4" groups with three five round volleys. The 147g FMJ Indian surplus was all over the place, consistantly on a sheet of 8.5x11 paper, but all over it.

The buffer stayed on for 100 rounds with no sign of wear.

No mind you I put the M305 down and shot 3 two inch groups with my 303 brit...

I am not convinced that the M305 is a target rifle...might be up on the excahnge forum.... 8)

Don't let the Indian ammo account for any judgements on accuracy. I weighed 100 rounds of this stuff and found over 20g. difference. I think it is useful for scaring the bejeebers out of tin cans. I won't be buying any more of it and regret buying what I did. Try some different ammo from Rem. or Win. and see if it shoots the same.

Is your scope mount getting pounded? It doesn't matter if you tape it or not if it is. How far does the brass fly? The Chicom springs are a little longer than USGI. With USGI springs in my bolt, the brass drops about 2' away. I still get contact with my cheap scope mount and need to set it up on a mill to make clearance.

The M305 is a good solid base but needs tweaking to be a target rifle.
