Ok guys i know this has been brought up before but it just happend to me today with my norinco sks and i have some questions about this problem.

It seems the casing was sheared right in two leaving the top section lodged quite tight in my barrel.

I was at the range when this occured with my buddies sks awhile back but we attributed it to a problem with the barrel being losely pinned not screwed in (thanks to some info and norinco history from some fellow gun nutters)

However, im quite sure my barrel is not pinned as it does not have the two visible pins my buddies rifle had, so why did this happen? Is it a common occurence for this to happen with screwed barrels?

I can see the casing in there. Is there a way i can extract it myself without having one of those extractors from lever arms?

any guidence to my problem would be greatly apreciated. Thanks!

happened to me last mnonth

if you're in van you can borrow my extractor, but it is the best bet to have one around handy. people have posted this before and there are ways to get it out just use search function.

cheeko

try and load an empty casing into it and extract. Otherwise a aluminum/or other material type arrow will work too, remove tip, tap lightly.

"...why did this happen?..." Bad headspace or ammo. Possibly a rough chamber.
If you have one and can get the right sized tap into the chamber, you'll be able to pull out the case. Plan 'B' would be a brass rod a bit smaller than the bore diameter and tap it out with a plastic mallet from the muzzle end.

thanks for the tips guys, i took the lazy rute and went and picked up a sks casing extractor. that thing works like a charm.

Well that sounds like a must have for all SKS owners. I haven't had this happen to me before, but I can tell you some of the cheap norincos weren't put togethet right in the first place! I had one where the barrel wasn't seated right and I noticed a large percent of F To FIRE . The primers were only lightly struck. On inspection there was a clear gap at the receiver end of the small op rod housing. You could see the spring! So always check the area. You don't want to see the spring! Lever gave me a new one

big save

we'll I had it happened to me last month when I wen shooting. I spent all day trying to get it out. That day was completely ruined. You never know if it ever happened but it could.

I do some gunsmithing for a LGS and I have had 4 sks rifles in my shop with casings or "part of" stuck in the barrel.

In all 4 rifles, it was a rough or corroded chamber from corrosive ammo "not cleaned properly".
Used a drift rod to take the cases out with Barstol cleaner poured down the barrel. " let it soak for about 4 minutes.

also had one brought to me with the bullet still in the chamber. "dead round" fired
I hydraulically hammered it out after soaking it with barstol.

Did you ever get the "casing" issue fixed?

SEE Post #6 - 16 year old thread
And as Lone Ranger says "not cleaned properly" is common when you have inexperienced owners who don't research their weapons. Chamber and bore s/b shiny, even if 'pitted' (like mine is -70+ year old rifle). ;)
