I know the CASM M14.ca mounts seem to be getting a good reputation in Canada & the USA from all of the M14/M1A forums. One thing that I have read a few times however is that the CASM aluminum mounts are great if your mounting a 40mm or less scope, but if your scope is a 50mm size then you should buy the steel mount and I wanted to know if this is true or false ? I don't see why the little extra weight would make such a difference to actually justify the need of a steel mount when using a 50mm scope.

I wanted to buy the CASM aluminum "extended" mount because I might be mounting a red dot + flip over 3 X's magnifier, so I could use the extra 3" long extended mount. If I don't like this set up on my Norinco M14 shorty then I will be putting it on a different gun, then mount my extra Vortex Diamondback 3.5x10x50mm scope onto my M14.

Basically, my question is to any guys that are using a 50mm scope on a CASM aluminum gen II mount, and if they are holding zero and can handle the tremendous extra weight (sarcasm) of a 50mm scope vs the lighter 40mm scopes.

Just thought I would ask the question first before I bought the mount because I have read a few times that the CASM aluminum mounts are fine for 40mm scopes or less, but any scopes that are larger than 40mm require the steel mounts (does not really make sense why people have said this on different threads, and sounded more like opinions and not facts...but I thought I would ask).

Thanks for any comments
