I've tried making some blanks to work out the crimp vs headspace and it turns out it the ogive on the boolits I'm trying out isn't tapered enough. The overall plan had been to size down the 115gr .311 Lyman 311008 I'm currently casting but they look as blunt as the 98gr 309 that isn't working. I tired 1 Hornady Short Jacket and it seemed to work no problem.

I've had a look at NOE and MP websites and don't see a mold that would work. Maybe the Lee 90311(314-90-SWC) sized down? But it's only a 2 hole mold and was hoping to find a 6 gang mold.

So does anyone have a mold that works for them?

Thanks
Clint

The Lee 90gr rn is giving me trouble too. Got a box on the bench that need to get pulled. The swc is good if seated deep enough.

I have an NEI 120 GR RNFP that works but isn't a very good mold. Just got a Lyman 32-20 mold (don't have the number handy but think it's 115gr) that I have hopes for.

That Lyman sounds like the one I have. I have a RCBS 32-84 WC that I haven't tried out yet, that I could size down as well. Then figure out the data for a WC load.

I've got an older Hodgdon manual and most for the powders listed between the rifle, cast rifle and pistol loads. The max's for rifle and pistol are listed as the same. So I should have lots of room to reduce.
I've shot off a 1/2 box of Aguila and it's way hotter then it needs to be for this BlackHawk.

That Lee bullet looks enough shorter on the front end then what I've tried and and what the Lyman 311008 drops. I'll order 1 of those molds. Thank you

You guys are referring to the 90364 mold? I had always discounted it as too blunt and stubby to work with the 30 carbine. Seated deep there's no reason it wouldn't work though. I was looking for something with a longer tapered shape more like the typical 110gr jacketed bullets.

When I figured out seating depth with the Lee 120 I just measured the original military rounds I had and used that length. I made two dummy rounds to cycle through the action which chambered and ejected without issue. The only problem I have with them is a 5 round mag sometimes jams on last round. My other 5/30 mags no issues.
I have also shot that bullet in multiple 30 cals at over 2200 fps
