Further to a previous post I went to the range with my new cast bullets ,tumble lubed 170gr 3030 bullets loaded with 14.5 gr IMR4227 with gas check and did a carefull job of sighting in and comparing a few variations of powder weights with and without gas check etc.
At 100yards I did get 1 one inch group with my old Win 94 and Lyman tang sight so I was very happy with that result. Also loaded one set of three with 7 gr of Unique and they showed very good promise with a less than one inch group at 50 yards. I wish I had loaded more with the Unique but will save that for another day.
I am diggin the cast bullet thing and hope to use 3030 in the CAS sidematch shoot coming up next week

Congrats, that is an excellent result and your 4227 load sounds good, shooting well with your own bullets is a great accomplishment, most people can shoot well with store bought bullets, but this is much more of an accomplishment. Now you need to go out and spend lots of money on molds, sizing dies, hardness testers, in-line seaters, case mouth expanders, etc...so you can continue to save money by casting your own.......Ben

Yea thats right and I hunt so I can save money, the guns, trucks, quads, fuel, binos, spotting scopes, clothes, tents, trailers, boats ,time off from work ,generators, saws, ETC that you just gotta have well they don,t really cost anything.
I am now unable to hide all this stuff from the wife, she has got me pegged now and I can no longer use the "it saves us money "thing

I feel your pain brother.....
I'm sitting on the fence with the cast stuff, but the more I read the easier the jump will be...nice job at the range

Bassmaster, get off the fence, once you try casting you'll wonder how you ever got along without it. Really, been casting for over 30 years and could never have shot as much as I did without casting.

Yup, kind of like fishing. Costs about 40-60 bucks a fish that I could buy at Safeway for 2 bucks. :D

Once you have the casting bug it can become a ragging flu. I have over 120 molds and I am always looking for some more. :D

I have a nice 311041 hollow point mold and when I team it up with IMR3031 for full power or Unique for plinking, great things happen out of an old Winny 94.
