Hi all,

I have some questions in regards to casting bullets. I am trying to make bullets for my Parker Hale 1863 Musketoon reproduction, and I can't seem to get the bullet diameter the right size. This is my first muzzle loader and I just want to get it out and shooting.

Basically I have two molds, one a brass .58 Cal mold, and the other a Lee .575 dia mold. Both produce bullets in the .582 range well I am hoping to get bullets in the .575-.576 range for ease of loading. The .575 dia mold I was hoping would produce at size but apparently it doesn't. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you considered the Lee 0.600" Round Ball? It will load with light-moderate effort. Inexpensive and worth a try IMO.

Lee makes .58 Minie ball moulds in two sizes: too large and larger yet.
The Lee mould that I bought was supposed to be the smaller of the two, yet the bullets wouldn't enter the bore of my P-H musketoon, even when cast of pure lead.
Lyman makes a mould labelled for the P-H and I recently lucked into a P-H original. They are both hollow base with the removable base plug.
I haven't used either. They are both NIB.
If you're in my neck of the woods come spring, we can have a lead-fest

I definitely might take you up on the offer!

I just order a Lyman 575213 mold which is apparently one of the best molds for these rifles. Its amazing how hard it is to find any of the larger black powder reloading or cleaning gear in this country.

Also going to try getting some pure lead as well and see if that helps.
