Caution - cable pulling lube

As a journeyman Cable Splicer I would say I've used dozens of different products as cable lube. They can be anything from silicone to water base. I'm pretty sure there are some good petroleum based products that will work better than water based products but as much bulk loading as I've done Ive never thought the case lube was very expensive in the overall picture of reloading.

I use Imperial sizing wax for stuff I really care about. Lanolin/Alcohol spray for most stuff. It's cheap and works great. Both of them you need to clean off though.

I use Hornady One-Shot aerosol for pistol as I don't need to clean it off. It's crap for bottle neck cases though- IMHO.

How many thousands of rounds have you loaded in a single batch??

When you're load up to 10 on a weekend, you need to find a way to get the lube on the cases as fast as possible.

It makes thing much easier if you don't have to roll it on, smear it on, wipe it on etc. Then is everything goes well, there isn't enough residue left on the cases to bother wiping off or cleaning off in some other manner.

I fully agree, with your statement that cost, etc isn't a relavent thing when it comes to case lubes, if you're only loading a couple of hundred rounds at a session.

It's great stuff but when you're reloading 5k 9mm etc, rolling the cases on a pad tends to get a bit tedious.

I used the Loobit type cable lube/cleaner by filling a cloth sack with the cases, spraying the outside of the sack with Loobit and rolling them around in a tumbler for a few minutes. Repeat three times and the cases are all lubed.

Time being money, wouldn't a carbide die be a better investment than lubing common straight wall cases? Not once in ever have I lubed 9mm, 45acp, 38/357, or 41 mag.

I use the 3M on bottle necks. Just did 1000 223 cases and 500 308., 500 30-06. No problem. I use a lot more of it than I do the Lee. It is very thin and dies not case shoulder dents.

Interesting.

I'm going to have to play with this.

DarkSyd, I use lube on carbide dies as well. Not so much to make things slippery but to cause less stress on the brass cases.

Some folks don't believe this is necessary but I do, especially when reusing the cases close to failure point. I get a lot of reloads out of my cases.
