I just read a thread about the hornady mix up. I might as well tell everybody mine. It's been awhile since I made up a few rounds for my 22-250 so I grabed my speer book # 12 turned to the info, pg 152, for my 22-250 and there it was tim to length 1.920 WRONG!! it should be trim to 1.902 and max case length should be 1.912 not 1.930 as stated in # 12, on page 154 it states that the max loads for a 52gr & 55gr bullets using IMR 3031 is 36gr. In the IMR handloader's guide that I have it states 35gr for 52 gr bullet and 34gr for the 55gr bullet. Know wonder I had primers popping out!!!!!

as for the max loads most manuals are different as they develope the loads in theretest guns, I have 5 different manuals + the stuff on the web as well . That is why you always start at the bottom and work your way up , take the Sierra book data and lets Hodgdon .223 80grain load with varget

Hodgdon 25gr max , Sierra 25.3gr Max

How about 69gr load using BLC-2?

Hodgdon Max 26.5 ,Sierra Max 27.4

Every gun will handel different loadis in different ways, start and work up :)

I always start with lite loads, 33gr first then 34gr, with 35gr of powder everything was fine, went to 36gr and the primers started popping out, should have gone with 35.5 and would have seen some signs of high pressure then
