Don't worry about the deal I made guys. I started this thread to start a dialogue on a classification system to rate bore condition. Claven is right the NRA system does not rate the bore specifcally. What I am saying is that we need a rating system to describe the bore - especially in the milsurp world. I will work to put something together. You guys give me some feedback?

I took somes pics today, i'm not a photographer so i dont know if the pics will help for something but let's try. I took bore pics from an Lee Enfield no4MK2, a Mosin M91/30 and a Lee Enfield no1MK3*. Sometime, the pics dont always show justice but i tried my best. We have:
Lee Enfield no4 MK2, personnally i rate the bore as Excellent.
You can see, the bore is bright,clean,sharp rifling. We can clearly see the distinction between the land and groove. The crown is also nice.

Mosin Nagant M91/30, i rate it very good for the same reasons stated above except that the bore is not as clean as the Lee Enfield no4.

Last is a Lee Enfield no1 Mk3. I rate it good, the rifling is strong but the bore show use,pitting is present but the bore is far from rotten i think.crown is good. Definitly not as nice as the Mosin M91/30 but that Lee Enfield still shoot very good and among my rifles, its still 1 of my all time favorite.

Bore darker and with rifling showing noticeably more use would be rated fair, in my opinion. Also, i will add that sometime, even fair bore can shoot well, depend of the rifle, there's always "grey areas" All facts stated is only my humble opinion without any pretention

A while back I was doing some research on the different definitions of bore defects and came across a set of 10 Mosin bore pictures with the author's description of the defects and overall condition rating. I dug up the thread link:

Unfortunately, I no longer see the pictures attachments from the user (CH). It may be worth digging further on Gunboards to see if you can come up with them --- they were excellent quality pictures and really demonstrated the different levels.

Great pictures and a good description of the bores. Like you stated the No1s pitting dosen't mean it won't shoot, it just fouls alot easier i guess. I'd feel confident paying a high price on a milsurp from you with pics like those.
Thanks for the comment, bore pics are somewhat hard to take to show the best a bore cond. Some pics,even not perfect are better than no pics at all.Great pictures and a good description of the bores.
