Recently purchased some CCI CB longs to use on yard pests. The first shot I fired from an old (but little used) Cooey single shot resulted in powder blowing back through the bolt sleeve and hitting my face. A bit surprised, I held my hand behind the bolt and fired a couple more... sure enough..blow back with each round. I then tried a high velocity LR and no blow back!
I tied the same routine in my brother's single shot Cooey and again got blow back with the CB's but not with the LR rounds.
The only explanation I can think of is that the CB's (which have a muzzle velocity of about 700 fps) do not have sufficient powder to expand the case enough to seal the chamber.
Any similar experience? Insight.
