Test-shooting the .22 CB Long into about 2 cm of a bonded-wood board (comprised of 9 medium-grain boards ranging from 2-4 mm in thickness, glued together). No intial penetration of the total board, but if the same 4mm surface area was hit twice by CB Long shots, the back of the board splintered apart and penetration of the total board was present.

Boring specifics: Remington 512 Scoremaster rifle, CCI .22 CB Longs, distance of 15 feet...

Many moons ago i decided to purchase some .22 shotshells to use in my S&W 4 inch kit gun for snakes in New Mexico . After a quick test i dropped that idea . Not even a scuff mark let alone penetration on my cowboy boot at 3 yards so no way it's gonna penetrate a rattlesnake hide . As for the CB's , a few feral cats that like to take a dump in the garden have met thier fate with 15 yard headshots .

I have no idea how would they work on grouse, but there is already a lot of debate regarding the ethics of using rifles, never mind the use of underpowered ones.

In the decade or so I've been posting opn the internet, I've run into little flack over the use of the .22 on grouse. I've had the occasional mumbling about "Sitting Birds", and that's about it. A lot of people think I take 'em on the wing, ha-ha. (I very rarely even attempt this with the .22- safety concerns)

I've hunted 'em with a smooth-bore (In the beginning), and there ain't a lotta challenge involved in it for me personally. I prefer the .22 for my grouse, and will stick with it...

^ I'm not surprised.

My 10/22 shooting cb longs is damn potent and extremely accurate at close ranges (I'd say it's perfect out to around 35-40 yards)

Little CB test

Well when we took a break for lunch from the gopher carnage I pulled out my new Win 67 and a box of CB shorts. Put a pop can on the cooler and stepped back 20 yards, touched one off down the 27 1/2 inch barrel. I said to the guy standing next to me if it made any sound, he said yup I heard the trigger go click. Just what I was hoping for, crows and magpies could be in trouble. FS
