Hello:

I wanted to ask, that if I have the choice of 40gr Mini Mag and the 36gr Mini Mag to purchase, which would be more desirable to shoot in pistol? Would some pistols be more happier with the 40gr because of the extra force?

I'll also be using it to hunt in long gun.

I know that the 36gr comes in hollow point but can someone tell me if the 40gr does also? I ask this because a couple of stores only have the CCI 40gr in solid point and one store told me that CCI only makes the 40gr in solid point.

Thanks very much for any advice.

The solids are 40 grain.
The hollowpoints have 4 grains of lead missing where the hole is and are 36grain.
I've never seen 40 grain hollow points in Mini Mag and I'm pretty sure they're not made.

As far as I know the 40 grain solids are still in production. My supplier just got an order of them in and I took 1000.

Can't help as to which works better in a pistol, both function fine in my S&W Model 41 and there's no noticeable difference in accuracy (both are great).

In regard to hunting small game I've found both to be effective. The hollowpoint in a 22 LR is more of a gimmick than anything. Sure, they do expand but I don't think the effect on game is much different between the two. (The solids expand too, btw).

Thanks TwoTone: I appreciate you responding.

Does anyone have any experience with the Mini Mag 40gr in their pistols vs. the 36gr as far as them functioning just fine?

Thanks

Im going to say, buy a box of both and shoot both, then buy what works best. :)

One may be more accurate, and one may hit with more energy. One may shoot flatter, and one may feed better or cycle the action better.

They do make 40 gr. mini-mag solids. I haven't seen any for a long time however. It's good accurate stuff.

Thanks John and Gundoggy:

I could not find any of the CCI Mini Mag .22lr 40gr online anywhere. But, low and behold they had part of a case left at my local store: 2700 rds. I said, hold them, I'll be right down. They were $7.15 per hundred. The store has no more and did not know when they would get any.

While I was in the store two people came in looking for these and another saw me with them at the counter and asked me if I would sell him some of mine; he was serious.

So, I don't know if this is a sign of things to come but I'm going to be more proactive in my purchases.
