I have a small collection of repro British Enfield rifles, and a Zouave, and I was lucky to get some RWS musket caps in one of the purchases. I was also lucky to find some CCI 6 wing musket caps (apparently no longer made).

However, some friends need some musket caps and it appears that the only caps local are the CCI 4 wing musket caps, for reenactors.

Has anyone ever used the CCI musket cap 4 wing for live fire? Any issues?

Thanks in advance.

We made the muzzleloading world a lot brighter in 1975 when we introduced our #11 percussion caps. Why? They were non-mercuric, non-corrosive, and darned reliable. We’ve now expanded the line to four popular products. In addition to the #11, there’s the #11M with more power to light off replica black powders. For revolvers with smaller nipples, there’s our #10 cap. And for original and replica muskets and rifles that require large, winged caps, we have the Four Wing Musket Caps. When using any percussion caps for reenactment or demonstration shooting without a powder charge or bullet, only use nipples with a large internal diameter. Standard nipples intended for normal loads can clog when fired repeatedly without a powder charge, potentially causing the cap to fragment. We recommend a minimum internal diameter of 0.050 inch for nipples used without powder charges and bullets. Thoroughly clean nipples and the flame path during firing sessions. Always wear approved shooting glasses when firing any muzzleloading firearm.

I had done research on the CCI musket caps.
CCI used to have product no. 0300 musket cap with 6 wings. However, there were complaints from reenactors that they were too hot, and the caps were splintering, causing some injuries.
So CCI came out with product no. 0301 musket cap with 4 wings labelled "For reenactment use." The majority of live shooters found they had problems with this cap and much preferred the older one; appears to work fine with blanks only.

Now I found a picture of CCI product use 301 musket cap labelled "Multiple Use."
I did an inquiry to a supplier of CCI musket caps, their package is labelled "For Reenactment use and live fire applications."

I'm assuming CCI has made improvements in their new cap.

I was hoping for an answer from someone who has had experience with the new CCI musket caps before I do an order.
Hummason's is a 1 1/2 hour drive for me, so not worth it to buy one tin.

I have used the 4 wing caps with no issues in live fire, I was using a TC Hawken with a musket cap conversion nipple. The musket caps are much hotter than the #11. I have never been able to find the 6 wing or multiple use around here.

Thanks very much Fraserdw! CCI no longer make the 6 wing. The main thing it appears that CCI has done better with the 4 wing today, than originally in 2011(?). I will order some for my friends.
