Hi, I am new to the forum!

I am wondering if anyone knows of a source for these harder primers, because I am having trouble with my Egyptian FN-49 slamfiring and doubling on me. Unlike my Garand!:) Better design regarding slamfires, can feed it CCI 200's all day.

I have backordered them at Wholesale Sports for the last 7 months and they are not sure when they are getting more, if ever! From what I hear, there is quite the demand for them south of the border.

Please I don't want to get into the debate of whether or not these primers are a marketing gimmick or not, I have made up my mind that this is the next thing that I should try to alleviate my slamfire problems. Either that or get a titanium firing pin made by a machine shop for the FN-49. Ouch, cost.

Thanks

Thanks! I will give them a call.

The last time I tried them about a month and a half ago they didn't have any though. Darn things are hard to find.

Uniform the depth of you primer pockets and dont look back.
I've loaded thousands of rounds for my Garand using regular primers and have never had a slam fire.
Something is a miss in your loading procedures.

Sorry in advance for the long post...

I have a Garand as well and because of the design differences I am going to stick to using the CCI 200 primer in these loads, no need to use the #34's for the M1 or M1A. But... the FN-49 is a different story.

I have had 300 of my reloads through my Garand without a problem and I always primer pocket uniform on all ammo I reload that goes through a semi-auto. My reloading procedures are fine, I seat primers below flush and bullets off the lands, with a crimp so the bullet does not move during loading and I always FL-size only. I am not new to reloading and have been doing it for years for both bolt guns and semi-autos.

The most shots I have fired without a slamfire (double fire) in my FN-49 is 18 and the first thing that I looked at was my reloads (actually first, second, and third) and they are definitely not the problem. I looked at all the springs, replaced almost all of them (including the one that holds the firing pin back from hitting the primer when the bolt closes), the firing pin does not stick and I operate it dry (no lube), and the hooks on the trigger sear and the auxiliary sear are brand new and operate as they should. This leaves the firing pins' inertia as the only reason, and hence the softer primer problem. I am not shooting it until I get the harder #34 primers (I could always shut the gas system off though and then I wont have a problem, but that is no fun).

Several other FN-49 owners have had this problem, and they said that switching to the harder CCI #34's fixed their problem.

Thanks for listening to my problem, if anyone has had experience like this I am open to suggestions. Thanks!
