CCI "quiet" ammo test.

When tried on the ARA target at 50 yards the CCI Quiet was roughly 4.5 inches low and the accuracy was poor at that range. They are more for 25 yards.
On RFC it was not advised to use them in CZ's as some would not exit the barrel.
One test over a chronograph found one velocity in the 200 fps range.
It was suggested the powder was missing. I took a couple apart and the powder weighed 0.5 grains. Standard velocity is in the 1.0 grains and MiniMags about 1.5 grains of powder.
Using the Sierra program with a velocity of 710 and sighted in at 50 yards the bullet would be 1.54" high at 30 yards and drop below 500 fps after 340 yards. (Just one of those silly assed pieces of information to be forgotten once read!)

I shoot them specifically for noise..I don't understand why a guy on a farm (which suggests noise less of a problem) would use them for pest control. When its pest control time I disregard the noise and go to Velocitors, shotguns. or centerfire.

I certainly understand that farms have neighbours too, and that in a more populated area these would be the only choice available. I guess that the reduced range would be a factor as well.

I started using the Quiet and CB ammo in my Henry for rats in the barn. Being so close range I didn't see the need for regular 22 ammo. Plus the regular ammo used to freak the horses out.

I just kept using it because it worked so well.

Out of both my 16.5" barreled 22's they chrony at 700-713fps (10ft). The FV-SR groups them (zero'd) into 1" @ 45yds..... @ 25yds they could be covered by a dime and are about 1/2" higher on POI.

I've never group tested them in the Henry, most work is under 20y

I like them, they feed better than CB Longs which are just a bit shorter. With a regular length barrel they are no louder than an air rifle

I use them for squirrel hunting. They don't spook all the others.
I've now switched to Aguila Colibri rounds for ultra quiet 22 Lr Shooting. I can shoot in my living room and the wife in the kitchen doesn't even know. It's an easy way to get a scope on paper before heading to the range and also gets me trigger time when I don't have the time to go to the range. I have a pellet trap in the basement that I use. These ultra slow and quiets drop birds and squirrels and coons well out to 15 yards. I shot the coons in the head. They're ideal for northern grouse

I bought a box for my buddy who had a Hikhik problem up North. Needed something quiet to keep from alarming the neighbours. I'll have to check in with him to see how they worked. From those tests they look like they would be outstanding.

They bit...

These low velocity rounds are fine as long as you are prepared to leave your gun sighted in for them. I tried them out and found their point of impact to be several inches different from my normal .22 LR rounds. I think you could go nuts if you had to adjust your sights before each use. Just something to keep in mind.

I have a compact bolt action dedicated just for these and sighted in at 15yds.
Before I dedicated a rifle just for the quiets I used a scope with resettable turrets. Zero for Velocitors, +2 for mini mags, +5 for quiets.
Pretty easy.

I've been using CCI quiets for squirrel hunting for years, head shots knock them right out of the trees. Often the faster ammo passes right through allowing the tree rats hang onto the tree limb in their death throws. The low velocity stuff sheds all it's energy in the rat lifting them off the limb and generally kills more efficiently.

I sighted my scoped rifle in for CCI Standard. When using CCI Quiet, at 35yds, I've found that the top of the post is POI.

I had been using a Ruger pellet rifle for rat control, but can not shoot it to much because of my shoulders, these Quiets are the "Bees Knees" because I can easily load the mag.

I use the Quiet-22s for pigeons in/around barns. At close range, they'll often pass right through and as a result, are less effective than you might think. I have 1 box of those segmented ones, but have (had?) my doubts that they'd even come apart as they should as such low velocities. Haven't been tested yet. Instead, I converted my CO2 air rifle to HPA for use in cold weather...and have been thumping them with that ever since.

I've wanted to try the Colibri rounds in my 22...as well as sourcing some CCI "Suppressor" and run some of that through my Waltz die. I think it would need just a little more speed to open up on impact on such a small target, but that's pure speculation.

Yeah, the segmented rounds don't open up. But they do expand a bit more than the soilds.

25yds, sand filled bottle.

I use CCI quiet .22 for grouse and hares almost exclusively.

They are plenty powerful enough for reliable kills, and if I shoot a grouse too low and hit the breast, I just get a pencil hole through it with no bloodshotting. And they area easy on the ears, which is nice.

The first time I used them I was pleasantly surprised to hear the bullet hit the target but not the gun shot itself. Pretty quiet. All short range stuff for me so long range accuracy not an issue.
