So after trying several different loads and going 2 grains less than what I was shooting outta my bolt gun I am still seeing my primers on spent rounds hqving a raised ring around the firing pin mark.

I am using mixed brass and mostly 55gr fmjbt on top of H335. My loads with my bolt gun have gone as high as 25 grains, and I was using 24.5 grains as my go to.

So when I used the same loads in my new AR I was surprised to see these primers looking that way.

They are not flattened and there doesnt seem to be any other signs of pressure.

I have read that if the firing pin hole is a bit large/chamferred and using softer primers this can happen.

Just curious if anyone else has had similar issues with CCI primers.

Also should say there is no issues with factory ammo having this issue, but havent tried any other primers as I only have a #### load of these CCI primers.

My Baretta 92 does that and it has a slight chamfer around the firing pin hole. I've never pierced a primer and it's not a bump, just a slight circle so I don't worry about it.

Point one, small pistol primers are thinner and softer than small rifle and not what I would be using in a 223 AR with those loads, and given the AR's propensity to slam fire. If you have a pile they work great in 22 hornet or trade them for small rifle.

Second point, I have a remington 17 FB that has the new bevelled firing pin opening. It raises a very noticeable crater around anything you shoot through it. Even with loads a bit over book max I have never had it pierce a primer so I don't worry about it, but it does mean that one of the classic pressure signs is not available on this gun. All the others still work fine.
