CCI Stinger in a Ruger 10/22 Standard

I've used them in my Ruger 10/22's in the past, only thing I found was they shot quite a bit higher than standard ammo & I needed to adjust the scope to account for it.

I have used them in a 10/22, magnum research 22lr, marlin papoose and a few others with no problems. As far as the cost goes, if you compare the price to 22wmr...it's not cost prohibitive to use them for hunting at all.
 
If you are planning a steady diet of Stingers, you may want to invest in a Shok Buff. Its a nylon piece that replaces the steel pin at the back of your frame. Very easy install and saves the battering the mechanism takes. About $5.00
 
I purchased a Magnum Research MLR1722 recently that said in the safety manual "DO NOT USE STINGERS" because of the Benz chamber.I always knew that the stinger had a longer casing (almost 1/8 of an inch IIRC) and never really used them anyways.After looking around the web a bit and read somewhere that if the firearm had a "sporting" chamber it didn't matter.I really don't know the actual ins n outs of what defines a sporting chamber but the manufacturers website may shed some light on the subject.
 
Used exclusively in my 1985 10/22 - thousands of rounds, no issues. Then sold the thing in the late 90'2 because I was stupid. Bought another one Dec 2014 and noticed the manual does not recommend use of CCI Stingers. Still I use them when I can afford them and still no issues with them.....although my '85 10/22 was a better built rifle than my current one.

Unless things have changed, the manual specifies Stingers aren't recommended with the Target version only. Like yourself, I have an early 80s vintage 10/22, and I've shot a whack load of Stingers out of it without any issues to this day.

An ultra-high velocity (CCI calls it Hyper Velocity) .22 round. It uses a slightly shorter 32 grain projectile, and a slightly longer case for a bit more powder. Thus the over-all length is the same, but it is not exactly a .22LR round even though it will fit in many chambers, because it won't in others due to not following the established LR specification.

Apart from sizing issues, the extra energy is not recommended in some firearms. Too much power for the recoil springs, bolts cycling too hard.

But they're fun, effective rounds in many rifles.

Thanks for the eloquent description red bailey.
I never could have said it as clearly as your description.
They did work great in my previous Sako Fin Fire and CZ's seem to like them too.
They have a slightly higher point of impact due to the added velocity.
Having a second loaded magazine made for fun times in the gopher patch.
