I just bought a used 10/22 with the 8" barrel and was wondering if CCI Stingers can be used in this barrel. I'm assuming no, but thought I'd ask anyway because I have a case of Stingers to shoot. Thanks.

That depends. If it has a sporter chamber you are fine. If it has a Bentz (target) chamber you will have difficulty feeding CCI ammunition. I tried CCI in my Bentz chamber and it would almost feed. I would need to push forward on the bolt handle to get it to close. I tried one mag of CCI's and never did it again.

How can I tell which chamber it is? Can I just try a few rounds and if it functions correctly, I would be good to go?

I can't see why not. I would suggest trying to chamber them at the range. I could not extract live rounds once they were chambered. Empty casings extracted fine. I'm pretty sure Dlask did not make Bentz chambered 8" barrels but I cannot be absolutely certain.

In a bentz chamber, the brass will open on the rifling since the stinger use longer brass and the bentz chamber is shorter. This will result in a pressure spike is that area which could cause damage. You can use a digital caliper to measure the chamber
