are cci stingers (1600+/- fps, 32 grain hollow points) safe for use in a ruger 10/22 rifle and/or a browing buckmark pistol?

:runaway:

yes they are fine in the 10/22 and the buckmark I have both and shoot stingers only
BUT I believei if you have a target chamber they ARE NOT ok

Not sure about the buckmark pistol but would imaging it has a sporter type chamber - sounds like it anyway from danielllybbert's post so it should be fine. For the 10/22 it is fine unless it has a match (bentz) chamber - than it will not chamber all the way.

I was told that you need a buffer behind the bolt of the 10/22 for hot rounds. This was to prevent damage that would eventually be catastrophic.

Horse####......:) Buffers are nice, they quiet the action, and can reduce wear and tear, but your 10/22 will not fall apart if you are using the standard steel pin......they are a very robust rifle.

yeah your good to go the buffer is just the first thing to starting your "custom 10/22" it doesnt do a dam thing really
and the buckmark pistol is good to go

The buckmark will eat anything you give it. I've got 1000 or so rounds through mine with 250 of that being Stingers and have had no issues. I've also used CCI Blazer, Velocitator, Mini Mags, Federal and Remington brands. All have worked but the Remington target and Yellow jackets were really dirty.
With a standart 10/22 you should be fine but if you have a match chamber your bolt won't close all the way as the stingers tend to be slightly longer then most 22LR.

I've shot stingers in my 10/22 before.

They've definately got a nice snap to them but you'll have to re-zero your scope as I'm guessing they have a flatter trajectory. I found they shot higher than what I had my scope zeroed in on and others have experienced this as well.

That said I like CCI velocitors a lot more and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants a high velocity round.

I know many shoot stingers in their 10-22s, but I recall that in the Sturm Ruger manual that comes with the 10-22 they recomended against using hyper velocity ammunition.

The manual does say to avoid Stingers, but only with the target model. It says that any 22 LR ammo, including hyper velocity, is ok in the standard 10/22 as long as the ammo is made to US specs.
