Would it be safe to fire CCI Uppercut 39 gr JHP .22LR in my aluminum frame Beretta 71?

It's listed as 950 FPS so it's standard velicity and I think it should be OK.

It would be small amounts, not hundreds of rounds through the 71.

What are you worried about exactly?
This is my first time hearing about that ammo , sounds like it's ideal if that's a load that interests you.

CCI says,

  • 22 LR velocity optimized for performance through semi-automatic handguns with 2.5- to 4-inch barrels

Slide frame peening.

I run a bit of Red N Tacky on my pistol rails.
What do you usually shoot in your 71?
I typically shoot hotter ammo then the uppercut's numbers in mine, unless I'm missing something I don't see why you think it's going to bash your pistol?

It shoots everything well except 333s.

I store the mags loaded with CCI Minimags.

It's an old pistol and I just don't want to damage it with anno I've never used.

Is there some sort of warning I missed with the upper cut? The numbers suggest it's weaker then what your currently shooting?

In general, semi-auto 22LR rimfire guns are recoil operated. If I correctly understand physics (mechanics), recoil is the momentum of the case pushing against the bolt face. In a mathematical term it is equal to the velocity times the weight of the bullet and propellant. Since the velocity of your ammo is just 950 fps and the bullet weight 39 gr, the recoil is not so excessive. Rather quite normal. By the way, I've never heard about CCI Uppercut. What so special with it?

It looks like bullet is the main difference, it's a copper jacketed hollowpoint and not just copperwashed.... more like what is typical in a .22mag.

It's 950fps from a 4" barrel though. This YouTube video shows 1460ish fps from a rifle:

it's a 32gr bullet rather than 40gr, so id put it in the same ballpark as CCI mini mags, and less powerful than Velocitors.
