CCI mini mags vs Winchester Power points

price is close but the new power points are a couple bucks cheaper & 20 fps faster LOL

the new super X ammo is hollow point & copper plated also no lube on them but they seem to work just as good with my Norinco m93's

Just so you know there's a NEW High power rimfire cartridge in town.

anyone tried it ?

Town = Planet earth ;)

I dont know if it is "clean burning" I never noticed any crazy amount of buildup in the barrel like cheap lead shots. it is copper plated.

Power points have been around for quite a while, I heard somewhere they were developed in australia for shooting wallabies, apparently the bullet acts more like a big game bullet than a varmint bullet but i have never tested it.

Power Points have shown better than average accuracy in most .22s that I've tried them in. According to my local gunshop, Winchester moved the plant that they were making them in and have had numerous quality issues afterwards. They recently recalled some batches of PowerPoints (in the old cardboard 50rd boxes). Apparently they had CCI making the ammo for them until they could get things sorted out. Not sure if any of this is true and if the new stuff in the 100rd boxes is CCI-made or Winchester made. All I know for sure is that I laid in a goodly supply of the old stuff since my CZ452 loves the stuff !!!

I have been using Power Points for a few years now (though they used to come in plain white cardboard boxes).

Performance is superb out of most guns that I have used it in. The PPs tend to shoot quite accurately regardless of firearm and performance on living targets is excellent, if not down right devastating. Certainly packs more punch than many of your standard HPs and when combined with its better-than-average accuracy, it is almost always my first choice for 22lr hunting ammo.

How do they compare to Velocitors? The 40gr Velocitor is 1435fps at the muzzle.

The old winchester powerpoint ammo was VERY good ammunition for high velocity. In my CZ 452 I would average .3-.4 CTC at 50 yards. Better than any CCI mini-mag ammunition I ever tried. I can't speak for the new stuff as I haven't tried it (unless it is exact same but different box which could likely be the case). My vote would got the Powerpoints but CCI is close behind.

Yeah Wal mart carries power points, in ontario anyways. Only half the walmarts carry ammo now though hardly any in the GTA same with Crappy tire.

In my rifles, the PP are more accurate. Both do a really good job on the larger gophers. The velocitors certainly have more advertised velocity, but seem irratic in many rifles.

Faster and 4 grains heavier. That's significant for a .22. If these new win .22s are like the older version, that is not copper plated, but is a compound that winchester called lubaloy which is a lubricant.
